Multilingual Text Analysis MLTA - Comparative Corpus Linguistics

Exploiting Parallel Treebanks for Hybrid Machine Translation

Typically, only few written texts are available for languages that do not have a writing tradition, such as e.g. Quechua. Even fewer of them have been translated into other languages. In order to be able to build machine translation systems for such languages, one must employ techniques that transcend the purely statistical approach, so-called hybrid MT systems.

The Institute of Computational Linguistics develops a hybrid MT system for the language pairs Spanish-Quechua and Spanish-German and, within the same project, devises a parallel treebank for these three languages.
