Detection of Mountain Names across Aligned Data by means of Coordination Patterns
Autorin: Franziska Tobler
This paper presents an approach that combines word alignment information as well as coordination patterns in order to be able to find currently unrecognized mountain names in the monthly publication called "Alpen", which from 1957 to 2011 has been published in parallel German and French versions. The evaluation shows that this combined approach using the simple coordination pattern X, Y and/or Z, resulted in the detection of more than 20 previously unrecognized language pairs of mountain names. In a further step, false positives have been eliminated from the results, in order for them to be included in the input list used for recognizing mountain names in the future.
